Savannah: like a box of chocolates
Maybe all you need to know about Savannah can be found on a pedicab ride from the Savannah Jazz Festival in Forsyth Park to the Savannah River. I had the driver — an animation student at the Savannah College of Art and Design — stop at a street artist stand, where Gregory Myrick was selling a surreal print of foodie Paula Deen in front of her Lady & Sons restaurant.

Paul Shaffer memoir is pop-cult goldmine
Dave Hoekstra: Paul Shaffer is poolside. He is lounging at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles, on holiday from his gig as the “ Late Show with David Letterman” band leader. Shaffer is in L.A. to promote his new memoir, We’ll Be Here For The Rest Of Our Lives: A Swingin’ Show-Biz Saga, written with David Ritz. Wisconsin artist’s Shangri-La set in concrete
The relationship between art and environment can be seen on a back roads trip to Wisconsin. I checked out Nick Engelbert’s Grandview, a sloping front lawn speckled with concrete sculptures in Hollandale, 45 miles southwest of Madison.

Bringing the Negro Leagues to life
Dave Hoekstra: Baseball historians often read between the lines to grasp the essence of the Negro Leagues. They were formed out of necessity in 1920 in Chicago when black players were excluded from the Major Leagues because of racial discrimination. After Jackie Robinson broke the color line in 1947, the leagues continued until 1955.

Is Negro League Hall of Famer player buried here?

There are 289 members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
